Beautiful filigree gunmetal enameled brooch 1928 brand. With purple, pink aurora borealis rhinestones. Stunning Victorian revival style brooch. Not signed but has the classic 1928 company pattern on the back.
Melvyn Bernie was a 23-year-old watch salesman in 1968 when he started a costume jewelry company in his garage. Now 1928 Jewelry Co. is one of the biggest fashion jewelry manufactures in the USA. For over 46 years, the 1928 Jewelry Company has drawn on a wealth of designs discovered in many unique, unexpected places. 1928’s designers scour antique shops in New York and flea markets in London and Paris, looking for ideas. An antique brooch, for example, might be the inspiration for a line of earrings, pins and pendants.
From the vaults of rich European capitals to the antique laden attics of old American estates, 1928 created modern replicas of the most beautiful, exquisite vintage jewelry ever made.
Melvyn Bernie decided on the name 1928 when he saw a magazine article that referred to 1928 as “the year of opulence.”
Currently, the company has six fashion jewelry brands under its signature brand name. The jewelry in the 1928 collections are designed to respect the details of period pieces.

Comical American Jewelry Chain Company AJC brooch pin of a kitty cat that has fallen into a flower pot. Silver tone shiny and matte finish. In good vintage condition.
A little bit History and Information.
American Jewelry Chain Co., known as AJC, lasted quite a long time (1927-1997). Jewellery by AJC was incredibly popular, as this brand produced not only quality, but also the original little things. In particular, various figures of people and animals with funny slogans. And most popular comic theme – figures of Cat in various poses – catching mice, hunting for fish from the aquarium, sitting in toilet, etc. Also, many jewelry decorations made for special days and holidays – St. Valentine’s Day, Christmas holidays, Halloween, etc.
Traditionally, decorations of this firm – marked in capital letters AJC, and also produced jewelry marked AJMC – American Jewelry Manufacturing Company. Since the company closed almost 30 years ago, all of its decorations are collectibles.
Jewelry of this brand is always of unusual design, depicting either people and miniature scenes from life, or fairy-tale characters, sometimes with fancy signatures. AJC and AJMC is rare in the vintage market, so it is in demand among collectors and vintage jewelry lovers.

Lovely vintage brooch pin, very detailed and has colorful enamel flower design. In great vintage condition. Not signed, but has Fish and Crown jewelry classical pattern on the back.
A little bit an information.
Cloisonné (from French: cloison = partition) is an enamel technique where formed wires in closed shapes are affixed onto a base and then filled with enamel. The wires form the raised walls or partitions surrounding these individual cells. This is the reverse of the champleve technique where the cell walls are at the same level as the base metal. Cloisonné was elevated to a high art by the Chinese during the Ming Dynasty when it was used on porcelain.

Vintage Continental Oval Brooch Pin, Clear Baguette and Marquise Rhinestones, Signed CONTINENTAL, 1960s
This is a beautiful oval Continental brooch. Two rows of clear Baguette Rhinestones and big Marquise crystal in the center. Silver tone metal. Clasp is in excellent condition and all stones are intact. Signed "CONTINENTAL"
CONTINENTAL JEWELLERY, INC.; — 1943-1997; Montreal, Canada
In 1943, Sam Baker and Sol Mayoff became partners and set up shop in a 500 square-foot store front in a Vieux Montreal building. There, with four employees, they sold costume jewellery, various accessories and religious articles and became the small firm, Continental Jewellery.
In 1947 already well known as Continental Jewellery, the small firm began to manufacture rhinestone articles which were all the rage at the time. The ever growing demand forced them to move into a larger space on Bleury Street.
In 1951, Continental Jewellery became the largest, manufacturer of mid-priced rhinestone jewellery in the country. Due to the whims of fashion, the market for rhinestones was gradually declining. To protect its market share, the firm hired a European designer to create a major line of fashion jewellery, making Continental one of the most important fashion sources for the Canadian market.
It is difficult to have a discussion regarding Continental jewellery without mentioning Sherman Jewellery. Continental’s line of rhinestone jewellery was said to be the main competition for Sherman Jewellery, which was also being produced in Montreal at the time. Continental’s high end rhinestone jewellery was very similar to Sherman designs but usually had less stones. These pieces were offered as a lower priced alternative and did well as such.
Many collectors of Sherman jewellery have been pleasantly surprised at the quality and beauty of Continental’s vintage rhinestone jewellery lines.
The company moved to its present location at 55 du Mont-Royal Avenue West in 1963. Six years later, partners Baker and Mayoff diversified the manufacturing end of the business and developed their own gold line. This did so well that today they make 95% of their own gold jewellery, importing only 5%.
Continental’s clients included large chains like The Bay, Eatons, Simpsons, Birks, People’s as well as a majority of independent jewellers and it employed a staff of 360. The firm had an annual retail business of $80 million.”
Continental jewellery continued to expand the company up until 1997 when the company was sold to an interest in the Far East.

Rare Vintage Sarah Coventry Gold tone Textured metal Reindeer brooch pin, marked COVENTRY CANADA. Vintage from the 1990s. There is the loss of gold coating on the legs, but still in good vintage condition.
History
The company produced decorations during two main periods 1949 – 1984, and 2000 – present. The company’s founder, Lyman K. Stuart named it in honor of his granddaughter Sarah. Noteworthy, established in 1949 jewelry company, it is the recognized oldest direct selling jewelry company in the world. In addition, the second jewelry company “Emmons”, no less famous than the brand Sarah Coventry, also belonged to Lyman K. Stuart. In fact, he named it in honor of his wife Caroline Emmons. However, instead of being engaged in design and manufacture, both companies appealed to other companies. Personal representatives sold decorations exclusively through so-called home sales.
Sarah Coventry also offered jewelry for men: tie pins and cufflinks. Already in 1960 -1970s Coventry jewelry prices were comparable to Trifari and Coro. Unfortunately, in 1981, Stewart filed for bankruptcy. And in the mid-1980s, a Canadian company bought Coventry.
Noteworthy, never sold in stores, Sarah Coventry costume jewelry was promoted only at the special “fashion” parties organized by the representatives of the brand. The company gave a lifetime warranty on their jewelry, while the owner had to just pay the postage.
In addition, Coventry marks include: “SC”, “Sarah Cov.”, “Sarah”, “SaC”, “Sarah Coventry” and “Coventry”, but a copyright symbol not always accompanied the mark.
There are five marks that have seen most often:
"Coventry" - First use 1949
"Sarah Coventry" - First use 1949
"SC" - First use 1950
"Sarah" - First use 1951
"Sarah Cov" - First use 1953

Jewellery lovers know Trifari costume jewellery under different names, and in particular, TKF, Trifari&Trifari, Krussman and Fishel. Noteworthy, the company, founded in 1910 by Gustav Trifari, exists for more than 100 years.
Luigi Trifari, a jeweler from Italy taught jewellery craft his grandson Gustav, who emigrated to the United States and worked for several years in New York as a designer. In 1917, Leo Krussman joined him. Then, in the 1920s with them began to work Carl Fishel, and the company changed its name to TKF (Trifari, Krussman and Fishel). From 1930 until 1968 for Trifari jewellery design engaged Alfred Philippe. Prior to that, he worked as a designer for Cartier and Van Cleef & Arpels. Under his influence was created a line of jewelry that brought the company to a new level. Meanwhile, famous are brooches of excellent quality, which Philip created in the form of crowns and Jelly Belly. About the success and quality of Trifari jewelry can be judged from the fact that the company still exists today, having gone through several economic crises. Until now changed owners, changed leading designers, but eventually Trifari became part of Monet Group, bought by Liz Claiborne in 2000.

A little bit of History and information.
The founder of the brand was Italian jeweler Luigi B. Guadagno, born May 13th, 1936 in Alife, Caseta, Italy. A son of Carlo and Giovanna (Scirocco) Guadagno, Luigi had lived in Glocester for five years, formerly living in Warwick. He graduated from Naples University with a degree in agronomy. But the fate prepared for him a different way – a natural talent and desire for art led him to jewellery business. As most jewelers of the time, he emigrated to the US. In 1970, in Rhode Island, 34-year-old Luigi founded his own jewelry company Ultra craft Co. Inc.
Most of Ultra Craft costume jewellery – brooches, earrings were released in small quantities in the 70s and 80s of the last centuries, marked “Ultra Craft®”. Their favorite subjects were stars, cats, people profiles and the Sun-Moon. Ultra craft costume jewellery is collectible and rare, some pieces are even unique.
Luigi B. Guadagno was a member of the International Fashion Jewelry and Accessories Association, besides, he was an avid horticulturist. Luigi B Guadagno died on Friday, July 5th, 2002 at the age of 66.
